let’s talk facial exercise

We are constantly hearing the importance of exercising our bodies and incorporating it into our daily lifestyle. We exercise to keep the muscles in our bodies toned, to boost our circulation and keep our minds healthy among many other benefits. So why are we not told the same for the muscles in our faces? We have 57 muscles in our neck, face and head (including our tongue) so wouldn’t it make sense to treat these muscles the same way?

Surely if we exercise the facial muscles then we will also keep our faces toned, boost our facial circulation and keep our minds healthy. If we feel good on the outside we feel good on the inside.

The muscles in our faces allow us to do so many important tasks in our everyday life. They allow us to show our feelings through expression, such as smiling or frowning. They allow us to chew and swallow so that we can nourish our bodies. They allow us to blink our eyes to keep our eyes healthy and moist. And of course they allow us to speak!

So how can we exercise these muscles? Face Yoga has many wonderful exercises that can help you strengthen your muscles. By simply strengthening and toning them, the skin that is attached also becomes more lifted and toned in appearance and therefore helps to smooth out any fine lines that have been created. And with regular exercise keep other fine lines appearing. With the exercise also comes better circulation to the face and neck and this encourages more natural production of elastin and collagen. And more blood flow gives your complexion a healthier glow!

Our faces can be trained to use certain muscles more and others less. For example if we strengthen the muscles that surrounds the eye, the Orbicularis Oculis, we naturally express more using our eyes rather than our foreheads. Less muscle usage of the forehead means less forehead expression lines and wrinkles.

There are so many facial exercises that we can do to suit your personal needs and skincare goals. And so many wonderful benefits! So let’s go!
